Current Projects/Activities
Extension specialists from the University of Missour are heading up a multi-state collaborative team within NERMEN on a project entitled,
Child Welfare Training: Curriculum Development and Evaluation for Healthy Marriage and Relationship Education. The team was
awarded $1.2 Million by the Administration on Children, Youth and Families Children's Bureau to fund a five year project which will involve developing and pilot testing a marriage and relationship education curriculum that addresses healthy marriage and relationship skills for populations underserved in the general population and overrepresented in the child welfare system. Additionally the project will involve in-person and distance education trainings for child welfare professionals, graduate students and other professionals, including Cooperative Extension educators, working with or preparing to work with adults and families. Connecting for Children
Central Missouri Community Action Agency has partnered with the University of Missouri College of Human Environmental Sciences Extension's ParentLink and the Center for Adolescent Sexuality, Pregnancy, and Parenting to receive a $2.4 million dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to fund a 5-year healthy marriage and parenting program targeting Head Start Eligible families. The program includes one and two-day educational experiences, weekly group sessions and a parenting and marriage education WarmLine to families in Central Missouri (Project period: October 2007-October 2012).
Connecting for Baby
University of Missouri College of Human Environmental Sciences Extension’s ParentLink and the Center for Adolescent Sexuality, Pregnancy, and Parenting, along with the Deptartment of Human Development of Family Studies, received a $2.4 million dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to fund a 5-year healthy marriage and parenting program targeting young, low-income, unwed, expecting and new parents. The program includes two-day educational experiences, monthly group sessions, a parenting and marriage education WarmLine, a professional toolkit with healthy marriage and parenting literature, and a public media campaign. State-wide healthy marriage coalition
Preparations are underway to organize a state-wide meeting of individuals and agencies working on healthy marriage initiatives. Current collaborators include the Cana Institute with Bridget Brennen, Ozarks Marriage Matters, Forrest Institute of Psychology with Jennifer Baker, Administration for Children and Families with Pam Marr, Diane Silman with the Ripley County Family Resource Center, John McCastle Alliance For Life - Missouri, and several other individuals and local groups.
